Its a well known fact that many shoppers find delis intimidating a misplaced British fear of people behind cheese counters coupled with sometimes unadventurous tastes means many of those glorious products from small producers remain on the shelf unloved and dusty.
Theres also the question of PRICE. That pot of handmade with love of course pot of chutney made by a small producer with dayold windfall apples and the vicars plums may look and sound appealing but is it worth risking 1634 or so when a reliable jar of jolly old Branston pickle is less than a couple of quid
